Valerie Frasier Brown is the daughter of Charles and Carolyn Frasier of Hinesville, Georgia. She graduated from Morris Brown College with a BS degree in Mathematics and Georgia State University with a Master’s of Education Degree in School Counseling. She currently works as a school counselor at Liberty County High School.

Combining a passion for helping people through education, religious affairs and the law; Johnson is fulfilling his calling to serve this present age. A graduate of Georgia Southern University and The University of Georgia; Johnson has completed advanced studies at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and The University of Wisconsin at Madison, Wisconsin.Fighting to eliminate the burden of inadequate education, poverty, racism, and homophobia; Johnson enjoys broad ecumenical respect as progressive servant leader. Serving into his 15th year of ordained ministry; he is the Senior Minister of the Mount Moriah Baptist Church of Pembroke, Georgia.Johnson has labored extensively for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) in a variety of capacities at the local, state and national levels. This includes service as the legal redress director and executive director of the Georgia State Conference of Branches after a successful tenure as Southeast Regional Director. Following the legacy of the late Ruby Hurley and late Earl T. Shinholster, as Southeast Regional Director, Johnson was the chief manager of the NAACP’s public policy agenda and administrative activities in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. Notably, this region included over 60% of the group's total membership base. Johnson was credited in leading a resurgence of the Association's legal and political prowess in the Deep South by focusing on public policy advocacy; effectively monitoring aging desegregation orders; and mobilizing critical local and regional coalitions. Today, he continues to advise and consult the organization’s national agenda.As a result of his work with the NAACP, Johnson went to work for America’s premier health advocacy organization, the American Heart and Stroke Association as the Vice President of Cultural Health Initiatives. He made significant progress on his mandate to help the organization develop effective strategies to overcome the social injustices of racial, ethnic and gender health disparities and strengthen diversity within its operations.Now in the full time practice of law, Johnson frequently lectures and writes on the concepts of race, measuring equity, and understandings of power in public policy. He has served on the Political Science and Criminal Justice faculties at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia and Savannah State University in Savannah, Georgia.He is married to Dr. Meca Renee Williams, an educational psychologist and professor at Georgia Southern University. They have one son, Thurgood Joshua.

A Memorial for Little Master

Frederick Douglass Johnson

On wings of Angels, Frederick Douglass Caleb Johnson passed away on December 18, 2011. The Johnson Family expresses thanksgiving to for every expression of kindness during this time.

For more information on THE JOHNSON FUND , a memorial to Little Master Frederick Douglass to support the work of The March of Dimes in Southeast Georgia and the Downs Syndrome Networks.

CELEBRATING SERVANT LEADERSHIP

Mount Moriah is proud of our First Family because over the last 11 years they have consistently exemplified the values of a christian family with humilty before the congregation. They support the work of the ministry and serve along with the congregation. Further, they are ambassador's of our faith community to the region and nation.

Our Senior Minister and First Lady Meca met in Graduate School at The University of Georgia through a mutual friend, Dr. Tracey Ford. They were acquaintances for four years before dating. They were married in July of 2006 by the Rev. Charles L. White Jr. They are the proud parents of Thurgood Marshall Joshua and the late Frederick Douglass Caleb .

First Lady Meca is an educational pyschologist who enjoys: traveling, reading fiction, collecting family photos, cooking Louisiana cuisine, and volunteering at Thurgood's school. Pastor Johnson is an attorney who enjoys: traveling, studying politics and cultural studies, and tinkering with technology.

Passionate, Relevant Authentic WorshipWould it surprise you to know that there are almost no references in the New Testament about how to conduct a worship service? Almost nothing is said about how to run one, what to include in it, whether to sing or chant or be silent, whether to have a sermon or a Bible reading, or whether Communion is central or happens before or after, or whether choirs should sing or not, or …... At Mount Moriah, we strive to celebrate the best of traditional Southern Baptist worship while embracing the creativity and spontaneity of new styles and forms of seeking God. On any given Sunday, you can still hear the old hymns of the faith as well as contemporary songs of praise and worship. At Mount Moriah, Worship service is so central to church life. So much so that if a person says “I go to church” most people translate that to mean that a person joins in the weekly worship service. This seems to imply that the only important thing about being a Christian in a Church community is whether a person participates in the Sunday Worship! Not so! At Mount Moriah, we strongly believe and practice a faith that goes beyond Sunday Morning.Indeed Romans 12:1-3 says:1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is true worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is.God's will is that we would be at peace with ourselves, our neighbor and the World around us through a positive relationship with our Creator.

We have adopted the theme “We’ve Come A Long Way”, borrowed from that old anthem of our faith. This affirmation underscores Mount Moriah’s determination to continue down the path of progress through the guidance of the Good Shepherd. Founded in 1890, Mount Moriah has served this community as a School, Community Center, Meeting Hall and Spiritual Anchor. Throughout the years, Mount Moriah has stood as a physical representation of the hope and determination of the African American spirit in North Bryan County and Coastal Georgia. As inspired by Genesis 22:14, We believe that "Community is the Place where God provides!"VISION STATEMENTWe will utilize all our resources to provide a Christ-Centered setting where people in this community and area can be redeemed to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, reconciled to God and His people, Restored to wholeness, to well being, and revived for a full life involved in service to others. ABOUT THE REVIVALISTRev. Dr. Lorenzo P. McNealVice President, GMBCModerator, TMBAPastor, Jersalem Baptist ChruchClaxton, GeorgiaThe Reverend Dr. Lorenzo Perry McNeal is a native of Evans County, Daisy, Georgia. He received his early education in the public schools of Evans County. Dr. McNeal attended Savannah State College where he received a B.S. in Social Studies. He attended Johnson C. Smith Seminary, and Union Theological Seminary where he received a Doctorate of Ministry and a Doctor of Divinity. He has also completed Advanced Studies in School Administration. He has several certificates of merit and completion from the University of Georgia and Armstrong State College.Dr. McNeal holds membership in several organizations, which include St. Joseph Lodge #76, Claxton Kiwanis Club, Lamar Carter Consistory 32 degree, two Ministerial Associations, Georgia Association of Broadcasters, The Claxton County Chapter of the NAACP, and other business, professional, civic, and fraternal organizations.He has been the Pastor of Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church for 37 years and Historic Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church for 9 years. For over 40-years, Dr. McNeal has pastored churches in Savannah, Vidialia, Albany, Patterson, Waycross, Sylvania, and Reidsville. He has had the opportunity to pastor in cities in the North, but has remained in the South because of his concern for development and leadership in rural communities.He has been Moderator of the Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Association for 17 years and 31 years as Vice-Moderator of the Tattnall Missionary Baptist Association. In 2009 he was named Modertor of the Tattnall Association. Dr. McNeal also serves as Regional Vice President to the President of the General Missionary Baptist Convention of Georgia, Inc. representing a membership of over 550,000 Black Baptists in Georgia.In addition to community service and management of two full-time ministry church programs, he serves as a revival speaker across the entire southeast United States region and as lecturer and workshop leader for churches and associations. Dr. McNeal is also an instructor for the Moderator Division of the General Missionary Baptist Convention of Georgia, Inc.Dr. McNeal is a former Program Director and General Manager of WCLA, AM Radio Station in Claxton, GA where he host “Rejoicing In The Morning”. He also worked as a radio announcer with several stations in Georgia and WALB television station in Albany.In the latter 60’s he served in the War Against Poverty. He was employed by the Altamaha Community Action Agency in Reidsville, Ga. as Center Director for Evans and Tattnall Counties and after a week was promoted to COG Liaison Officer a comprehensive effort of Government, Business, Labor and the People to move Georgia forward in a 66 County Area. He also served as the Chief in assisting Business and Professionals to develop affirmative Action Plans, 9 counties were under his administration.In Waycross he served with the Slash Pine Community Action Agency as Public Relations and Resource Officer. He represented 25 Agencies in Georgia. Worked with 9 Counties and 13 Cities in the South Georgia Area.In Eastman, he served as the Affirmative Action officer and Director of Staff and Public Relations. Keeping the Mission ever before the people through Conferences, Labor, Government and Business. Spreading a positive message through the use of the media.He has served the General Missionary Baptist Convention of Ga. Inc. as Public Relations Director, Missions Direction both Home and Foreign, and Promotional Secretary for all of the 12 Districts. He is currently Regional Vice President for Districts One, Two and Eleven, which are the larger Districts of the Convention.Over his 40 years plus in the Ministry he has served as a “Pastor’s Pastor” to many young men in the Ministry. Dr, McNeal has devoted long and untiring hours in giving simple down to earth advice and whose vast library has been made available to them. He plans to leave it to His Sons in the Ministry and those who seek to serve the Master. In doing so he will live on in the lives of so many.

Harris is a graduate of LaGrange College with a B.A. in English, Emory University with a Masters in Divinity and Mercer University School of Law. Mr. Harris has eight years of diverse legal experience in working for several boutique law firms that specialize in the areas of entertainment law, personal injury law, criminal law, and domestic law. He is a member of the Florida Bar Association and is licensed to practice law in the State of Florida.Additionally, Harris is a consultant for several church ministries and entertainment companies in the music industry. Vision, Mission, and History Our Vision Established in 1890, Mount Moriah has served this community as a School, Community Center, Meeting Hall and Spiritual Anchor. Throughout the years, Mount Moriah has stood as a physical representation of the hope and determination of the African American spirit in North Bryan County and Coastal Georgia. As inspired by Genesis 22:14, We believe that "Community is the Place where God provides!"We will utilize all our resources to provide a Christ-Centered setting where people in this community and area can be redeemed to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, reconciled to God and His people, Restored to wholeness, to well being, and revived for a full life involved in service to others. In the Church you can be Redeemed, Reconciled, Restored, and Revived.Our MissionTo provide refuge and services to improve the well-being of all those in and connected with this Church and the surrounding community. To be distinguished by our Words and Deeds as “The Church With Helping Hands.” Our HistoryOn the second Sunday in March 1890, the Reverend Sampson Eason called together a group for the purpose of having religious services in the Baptist tradition. The Fathers who established the foundation of Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church were brothers Frank Byrd, Claudius Ealy, J.D. McMoore. They appointed the Second Sunday in each as Worship Sunday. Unfortunately, Reverend Sampson soon became sick and notified Reverend N.A. Hart to fill his appointment on the second Sunday in April.Before the second Sunday in May 1890, Mount Moriah’s organizer, the Reverend Sampson, passed away. The Reverend Hart continued the organizing work with us until the fourth Sunday in June 1891. Mount Moriah then called the Reverend W. H. Styles, and Brothers J. B. Barty and Lane Walker gathered to organize us into a church. Having no house in which to meet, we obtained permission from the St. John A.M.E. Church of Pembroke, Georgia to organize in their house. The first membership of the newly organized church consisted of Brothers J.D. McMoore, Emanual Smart, Will Pee, Sisters Annie Abel, Sallie McMoore, Mary Treadway, these having obtained peaceful letters from Saint Phillips Baptist Church of Ellabel, Georgia. The new church was named Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist church and the Reverend N.A. Hart was called the first Pastor. The first candidates for baptism were Brother Daniel Abel and Sister Maggie Abel. Since the founding of this body, God has graciously provided 9 Shepherds of this flock: the Reverend N.A. Hart (1890–1891); the Reverend W. H. Styles (Not considered a called Pastor but interim minister serving 1891-1892); the Reverend W.C. Whitfield (1892 -1922); Reverend S.M. Walker (1922); the Reverend J.A. Lockette (1922-1938); the Reverend C.W. Anthony(1938); the Reverend A. E. Hagins (1939-1989); the Right Bishop K. E. McNeal (1990-1997); the Reverend R. S. Tremble (1997-2003); and the Reverend Dr. Francys Johnson (Present) Mount Moriah has fully ordained two members, Missionary Veronica Mangum and the Reverend Jerry Adatsi (presently serving in Atlanta, Georgia). Mount Moriah has licensed several ministers over the years including the current Daughter of the House Minister Valerie Frasier Brown. Further, Mount Moriah has ordained thirty-three Deacons including J.D. McMoore, Will Pee, Edmond Bass, N.N. Beatty, Henry Brown, Joe Crawford, Charlie Jackson, Richard McKee, Arthur Simmons, Will Simmons, and John Stephens, Obie Brown, Elzie Bryant, George Bush, Mack Cochran, Earl Garrison, James Garrison, Robert McCloud, Gene Miller, Jonnie Surrency, Raleigh Surrency, Allen Wallace, Leo Garrison (accepted by letter from Mount Zion Baptist Church of Savannah), Eli Rogers (accepted by letter from Cypress Bay Baptist Church of Savannah), Robert Mchee, James Miller, Sam Bradley, Steve Stringer, Dave Williams, and Earl Edenfield.Our Laymen has been led by the following men: Brothers J. D. McMoore; Charlie Jackson; Mark Cochran; Will Simmons; Richard McKee; Henry Brown; Leo Garrison; Gene Miller; Robert McCloud; and Johnnie Miller, Sr. (presently serving).Our Women have been organized under the leadership of Sisters Lucille Brown; Bessie Surrency; Mary Bush; Clara Garrison; Elbertha Smokes; Lettie Stewart; Maggie Miller; Letha Lawson; Eula Mae Bowers; and Angie Millier (presently serving). Six seasoned Sisters have been designated Church Mother: Sisters Mary A Treadway; Mea Bell Bass; Mandy Rogers; Eula Mae Bowers; Linda Sparrow (presently serving); and Mary Ann Lawrence (presently serving). Seven members have served as Treasurer including Deacon George Bush; Sister Lettie Stewart; Deacon James Garrison; Sister Minnie Geiger; Deacon Henry Brown; Deacon Robert McGhee; and Deacon Dave Williams (presently serving). Seven members have maintained the official records of the Church including Sisters Minnie H. McMoore; Annie McKee; Bessie Surrency; Elbetha Smokes; Mary R. Rogers; Linda Sparrow (Clerk Emerita) and Pamela Geiger-Baker (presently serving). The Youth have always been served at Mount Moriah and the following members have carried the program over as Youth Directors: Sisters Mary Paul; Annie Mae Gillard; Miriam Bush; Lula Garrison; Elnora Corbett; Mary A. Lawrence; Mary Ruth Rogers; Lillie Hicks; Debbie Jackson and Meca Williams-Johnson (presently serving).In December 1999, God sent the Reverend Dr. Francys Johnson as our Youth Pastor. The Church overwhelming called the Reverend Francys Johnson to Senior Leadership in November 2003. A high standard was lifted in that declared “We Shall S.O.A.R.: Seek the will of God, Overcome every obstacle, Achieve purposeful living, and Reach the Promised Land.” The Lord’s abiding presence is evidence that truly without a shadow of a doubt Mount Moriah’s best days are yet ahead. Mount Moriah is known as the “Church with the Helping Hands” and the “Place where God Provides.” All of the efforts of every member, auxiliary, department, board or ministry is aimed at utilizing all resources to provide a Christ Centered setting where people in this community can be redeemed to personal relationships with Christ, reconciled to God and His People, restored to wholeness, to well-being, and revived for full service to others. In this Church you can be Redeemed, Reconciled Restored, and Revived.To God be the Glory!
